Interested in doing a bit of gardening this spring? Keep an eye out for the return of the Gardening Gang. During weekly Habitat maintenance in the spring, the bird boxes are checked. Volunteer and you might have the opportunity to meet some baby birdies!
The new bird houses have been installed as part of Sean Caldwell's Eagle Scout project and are already in use by our Habitat inhabitants. Hooray! Photos with additional information will soon grace the lobby bulletin board.
Make a Brush pile at the Habitat
Do you have downed trees from this week's storm? Let's turn them into a useful Habitat project! One of the remaining areas in need of rehabilitation is the brush pile - an area that provides shelter for snakes and small mammals. To get started, we need logs about 6 feet in length and 6 inches in diameter. If we get around 10 logs and the chance to arrange them before Christmas, we can stack discarded Christmas trees on top in January!
This Fall we put in new pathways with fresh wood chips! Thank you to all the volunteers for helping to restore the pathways to great shape! We keep our pathways maintained by killing off any weeds using a vinegar spray or pulling them by hand. If you see a weed in the path, be sure to pull it out!
